How Might We

How can we help small business owners work on their online presence and manage their time effectively, knowing they have limited time to find practical solutions?

The Problem

COVID-19 has hit small businesses hard. Effective branding and marketing are crucial. Marketing agencies expect owners to be online with websites and social media.

Small business owners don’t have the time and resources to build their own online presences, While the research shows, “An online business never closes, and companies with websites grow between 15-50% more relative to similar enterprises that aren't online” Other research shows that collaboration between sales and marketing teams would generate 32% higher revenue, retain 36% more customers, and achieve a 38% higher win rate in closing deals.

I like having a planner; it helps me visualize the project.”
Susan - Brick and Mortar Store

“I will use it only if it will help me sell more products on my existing website and if it is easy to use.”

What we could provide is an all-in-one solution. We will provide a self-learn brand-ready marketing platform for small business owners.

We will provide a solution in three steps following the NOW, NEXT, and FUTURE.

User Research Interview + Competitive Analysis

There is quite a journey when it comes to choosing a specific user group for our product. At the beginning of our process, we wanted to help small business owners as a group, as we both have a special connection with small business owners.

As we dive deeper into the small business group, we realize there are many solutions for marketing products on the market, such as Google Ads, Yelp, Semrush, and so on.

User Research Overview

We researched small businesses in field and remotely.

There are four different ways that small business owners use the market themselves, we found out the most successful physical store has successful social media platform and a robust website.

Key Insights

Competitive Analysis Overview

We researched the following leading brands.

Quadrant Analysis for current solutions

Hence, I portrayed myself as a real user, a live business owner. Chloe Kim has a jewelry business that is just starting to sell online, but she has a solid social media presence and wants to promote her business.

I called myself Chloe, the business owner, to contact those listed companies. Two emails and two calls. As an insight, we discovered that the company provides solutions that are more beneficial to businesses with revenue above $250,000 and have a basic understanding of marketing knowledge and your client list. Otherwise, your business will be forwarded to a less important phone call list.

Solution after Challenges

Solution exploration based on competitive analysis

In conclusion, all of the companies we researched are too busy to use our cold email, or they provide help only in marketing.

Hence, we brainstormed on what we could do better than our competitors. We find out what the market currently provides is marketing their products.
Features Overview

What I Learned

System Thinking

Rethink the platforms as a learning platform because when in the business world, people all think about money to solve problems; sometimes, it is not the ideal solution, or even the company that provides the solution doesn’t understand the root problem.

Users Need

In our cases, it is understood that many business owners don’t have an entire brand identity online presence, and they want help but have no budget and nowhere to learn for a long time.

Future Insight

Our platform could help many business owners build elemental online presences and learn basic marketing knowledge by themselves. Their income will likely grow once they have a better brand identity and put them on the market. Hence, those business owners will return to use as long-term future users.
